Houseboat Adventures on the Zambezi and Chobe

Journey into the heart of Southern Africa on a private camper-boat adventure along the Zambezi and Chobe rivers. Travel through vast floodplains, quiet channels and wildlife-rich river systems at a relaxed pace. Spend your days watching elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles and remarkable birdlife from the water. As evening arrives, stop at a secluded riverside camp, gather around the fire and fall asleep beneath the African sky.

This is more than a boat trip—it is your transport, your accommodation and your front-row seat to the wilderness.
Your Safari Boat

Our specially designed 7.5-metre aluminium camper boats are built for comfortable, independent river travel.

  • Each boat features:
  • Two rooftop tents
  • A bunk bed on the lower deck
  • Accommodation for up to six guests
  • A small kitchenette with a gas stove, basin and fridge
  • A dining area
  • A shower and toilet
  • Kitchenware and essential camping equipment

Every journey is accompanied by an experienced skipper who navigates the river, shares local knowledge and assists with setting up camp and preparing the evening fire. For longer journeys, we recommend a maximum of four guests per boat for additional space and comfort.

Zambezi Stop-Over

Explore the upper Zambezi on a relaxed overnight river journey. Travel downstream from our departure point near Katima Mulilo, taking in the river’s broad channels, islands and peaceful floodplains. Enjoy excellent birdwatching, opportunities for tiger fishing and bream angling, and sightings of hippos, crocodiles and occasional elephants. As the sun sets, stop at a secluded riverside campsite and enjoy an evening surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Recommended duration: One or two nights

Highlights: Zambezi River, fishing, birdwatching, sunsets and secluded riverside camping

Zambezi–Chobe Adventure

Combine two of Southern Africa’s great rivers in one unforgettable journey. Travel approximately 80 kilometres along the Zambezi before entering the Kasai Channel near Impalila Island. From there, continue into the Chobe River and camp overlooking Chobe National Park. This adventure offers an exceptional combination of river travel, birdwatching, fishing and wildlife viewing. Watch elephants crossing the river, see buffalo gathering along the floodplains and experience the region from a perspective few travellers ever enjoy.

Recommended duration: Three nights or longer

Highlights: Zambezi River, Kasai Channel, Impalila Island, Chobe River and Chobe National Park

Chobe Classic

Experience the wildlife of Chobe National Park from the water. Beginning near Kasane in Botswana, this journey travels approximately 30 kilometres along the Chobe River. Spend your days exploring the riverfront and your evenings camping at a remote site overlooking the national park. The Chobe River is renowned for its large elephant and buffalo herds. Guests may also encounter giraffes, sable antelope, hippos, crocodiles and numerous other wildlife and bird species. Viewing animals from the river allows for quiet, close encounters and extraordinary photographic opportunities.

Recommended duration: Two nights or longer

Highlights: Chobe National Park, elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles and abundant birdlife

Nights Beneath the African Sky

Each evening, your boat becomes a comfortable wilderness camp. After a day on the river, stop at a secluded sandbank or established riverside campsite. Relax around the warmth of the fire, enjoy dinner beneath the stars and listen as the river and surrounding bush come alive after dark. Your rooftop tent provides an elevated sleeping space, allowing you to drift off to the sounds of the African night and wake to sunrise over the water.

Wildlife From the Water

The river offers a completely different perspective on Africa’s wildlife. Elephants frequently gather along the Chobe riverfront and may occasionally be seen swimming between islands. Buffalo, giraffes, antelope, hippos and crocodiles inhabit the surrounding floodplains, while hundreds of wetland and woodland bird species make the region a paradise for birdwatchers. Because the animals are often more relaxed around boats than vehicles, river safaris can provide wonderfully natural and intimate encounters.

Fishing Adventures

The Zambezi is famous for its powerful tiger fish and excellent bream angling. Fishing can be incorporated into selected camper-boat itineraries, with opportunities ranging from casting near the rapids to exploring productive waters further downstream. Our skipper will guide you to suitable fishing areas based on the season, river conditions and the species you hope to catch.

Self-Catered or Catered

Choose the catering arrangement that best suits your adventure.

Self-Catered

Bring your own food, beverages and drinking water. The boats include a kitchenette, fridge, gas stove, kitchenware and the essential equipment needed to prepare meals during the journey.

Catered

Meals can be supplied and prepared according to a planned menu. Guests provide their own beverages and drinking water unless alternative arrangements are made in advance. Please inform us of any allergies or special dietary requirements when booking.

A Journey Designed Around You

Camper-boat safaris are private experiences, allowing the itinerary to be shaped around your interests. Whether your priority is wildlife photography, birdwatching, fishing or simply escaping into nature, our team will help plan a river journey suited to your group and available travel time. Routes, campsites and daily distances may change according to water levels, border requirements, weather and local river conditions.

Begin Your River Adventure

Leave the roads behind and experience the Zambezi and Chobe as they were meant to be explored—from the water. Travel slowly, camp remotely and discover a side of Africa that few visitors experience.
